Diabetes is on the increase. Never before has the NHS been so stretched by a disease that in some cases is down to bad lifestyle choices and poor diet. We live in a society where there are many temptations when it comes to choosing food and drink. The problem is that many people are making the wrong choices and are in denial about the effects those choices are having on their health. If only they would stop and think of the long term health implications before filling their shopping trolley with litres of sugary drinks and high fat processed food. So, what choices should we be making and how can we reverse the harm that has already been done? We asked Vita Spa, specifically in relation to using a hot tub.
Exercise, or the lack of it can make a huge difference to anyone’s life. It can help to burn excess calories and give a boost to weight loss for those who need to lose the extra pounds. Not everyone feels capable of jogging round the block every day and although walking is a good substitute there are additional ways of boosting weight loss. Try using a hot tub regularly. Relaxing in a hot tub can have the same effect on the body as an exercise session but without the strain on the joints. It can speed up the heart rate and because it dilates the blood vessels it means that blood flows around the body quicker in the same way it does when exercising.
If diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it’s very important to take extra care with your diet. By increasing the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet you are giving your body the wide range of nutrients it needs for better health. Carbohydrates are best if they are the unrefined variety so change to wholewheat pasta, brown rice and wholemeal bread. Changes like this are not a miracle cure but will mean better overall health and could result in a reduction of medication needed to treat it.
